Dreamy Drape

Some of you may know that recently I got a spot on the Rebecca Page Testing Team. Insert happy dance here. This is my first pattern test from them. The skirt here is the Add On to the Dreamy Drape Top which is technically what the test was for,Β  but I didn’t have the top to go with it so, why not?

RP Dreamy Drape 4

First, let’s talk about the Skirt because that is the new release today! The pattern comes with the skirt and the dress options so you can pick or make both. No one is keeping track, I swear.

RP Dreamy Drape 11

You can make the skirt or dress in mini, midi, or maxi length. My skirt is the midi length for reference. I adjusted a bit for height as I am only 5’1.

RP Dreamy Drape 7

Another great feature is the walking vent. It is both functional and cute. I think it adds just a little something extra which punches it up a notch!

RP Dreamy Drape 3

Ok on to the top

It’s pretty, right? It is so girlie and cute and this is honestly the first time I have EVER had a bat wing style shirt fit me. I choose to do the diagonal hem top because I liked the fact that it would cover my belly and honestly I just like separates. I recently wore this to work over jeans…loads of compliments.

RP Dreamy Drape 5

If you aren’t into the pointed hem you can do a straight one or even attach your top to the skirt and have a cute little dress! Options…it is all about the options!

RP Dreamy Drape 12

I sewedΒ  5x in both of these pieces, but the pattern is available for kids through 5x. So Mommy and Me is 100% doable! Currently the pattern is on sale. πŸ™‚ Also be aware this sews up fast and you can wear is on Easter!!!

Whole bundle including the original Dreamy Drape pattern PLUS the Dreamy Drape Add-on (in ALL sizes). Regular price $23.50. Special launch price only $13.50

My pretty pink and black printed fabric is from Sew Blessed. It is a Rayon Spandex and it is nearly the softest thing I own. I loved that my sleeves didn’t get weird and stretched as I wore it all day. πŸ™‚ Chico Loves it too!!

Gloria

The Gloria Peplum and Dress by 5 out of 4 Patterns.

This is the follow up to Jessie, which I loved, so I couldn’t wait to test this pattern!

I made the dress version and the peplum version just to show you guys the difference. Well maybe not just to show you the difference, I liked it…A LOT!

First the dress.

I wore my dress when I finally got to go to the Wizard Of Oz Traveling exhibit. It was fun, totally for kids, but whatever, this is my favorite movie…EVER!

It is aΒ  Hi lo hemmed dress and you get to choose your length. Then the pattern shows you how to make your curve which was pretty fun. I chose elbow length sleeves and the lower neckline. I graded from the middle length option to a slightly longer than the peplum length.

5oo4 Gloria Size 5XL2.jpg

I did a full bicep adjustment of about 1.5 inches. I nearly always do this adjustment because I need the extra room when I flex my muscles. πŸ™‚ If you missed it, last week, I made a video to show you how to do it yourself! Also we bugged Rachelle enough that she even included a full bust adjustment with this pattern. How awesome is that?!?! So if there is a 4 inch difference between your upper and full bust you can use the included FBA bodice to get a better fit!! This will make it even faster for you to add this dress to your spring wardrobe.

Gloria 2.0

Skater Skirt and Split Sleeves πŸ™‚

5oo4 Gloria Size 5XL.jpg

First off, here is where the FBA Bodice came into play. Notice that I have a more relaxed fit in my bust area. Again, Thanks Rachelle!

So this is the FBA bodice with lower neck line option.Β  I added in a hot pink DBP for the back bodice for a pop of color. It was a scrap left from another project, yet to be released. It came from Sew So English in a bundle pack.

Fun Details

My bodice and skirt nearly lined up perfectly to make LOVE and it was totally luck. I never even considered trying to match them up but was happy when they did. Also, here is my split sleeve. I serged the edges and left them unturned because I liked it. I did the bottom hem the same way. I feel like it added to the graphic effect of the print.

So let’s talk fabric. Both prints are from I am sew blessed.Β The red and brown has all those hints of gold, it is beautiful I tell ya! It is also super flowy. Did you notice the pics where the wind was blowing it around? Ahhhh Nice huh??Β  The graphic LOVE print is an ITY that is cool to the touch and looks awesome! I have a small amount left from the 2 yards I ordered. πŸ™‚

How perfect is this stairway? It is the Steps that lead upstairs at the Easton Mall. They are lights that go up and down.

Video : Full Bicep Adjustment

So I was recently asked to create an informative sewing video for the Sly Fox Fabric Sew Along group. Since I have only been *successfully* making clothing about 6 months this was a bit shocking, but I was given a pep talk and here we are.

I would say 90% of the patterns I sew require me to do a full bicep adjustment. I have large arms, my arms like to move, and I never want to live through the horror of an Incredible Hulk moment where my arms literally bust out of my shirt.

So here we go…

Hope this video helped you out a bit and makes you more confident in adjusting the bicep fit of your favorite patterns. If you have any questions feel free to leave them below.

Jessie Top

I recently was given the opportunity to test for 5 out of 4 pattern company and I was very pleased that this design fit right off the paper. This is a slim fitting design with loads of options.

5oo4 Jessie Size 5XL.jpg

This one comes in a Top, Tunic, and Dress length as well as 5 different sleeve lengths. As usual I adjusted the pattern 1 inch to fit at my bicep.

This pattern also includes several options to style the back including

  • High, Low Ballerina, Racerback Insert, and Strappy Back

My geometric version is the Strappy Back and for my Black and White version I did the typical high back style. I love and have worn both already. This pattern includes a size range from XXS to 5X.

So let’s talk fabric. This amazing Aqua with geometric print is a Rayon Spandex blend and comes from Sew So Blessed Fabrics. Tell Ms. Rosa I sent you. πŸ™‚ She shops nearly every Saturday so join her Facebook group so you know when the sale starts.

The Black and White is a slinky knit from Joann’s that I picked up on Black Friday.

5oo4 Jessie Size 5XL (1)

This pattern is currently on sale from $7.95 from 5outof4.

As this test was wrapping up, I was invited to join their tester pool. Of course, I joined in so be on the look out for lots of fun stuff from 5 out of 4.

Good Luck, Class! Good Luck!

The Good Luck Cardigan is here and it is just in times for St. Patty’s Day! Who needs a little Luck O’ The Irish in their sewing studios and their closets?

EAM Good Luck Cardigan 1
You can’t pinch me, I am wearing green.

Lucky for me, I just happen to have this pretty Springy- Minty green on hand. I picked it up several weeks ago for $1 a yard at Wal-Mart. It is a thicker, textured fabric that sewed up surprisingly well.

EAM Good Luck Cardigan 3
Waiting for Spring. Snow please go away.

I wore mine belted today, but this also looks awesome unbelted. You can choose between a shorter length like mine or a knee length option. Same with the sleeves, I went short, but if you prefer you can go long. You could also do both, I won’t judge you. I feel like I have been on the cardigan super highway lately. I think, I have made 5-6 in the last month or so. This comes in sizes XXS-5X. I graded from a 4x bodice to a 5x waist and back to the 4x. The sleeves were narrow on this one and I adjusted 3 inches at the bicep. Be sure to measure before you cut your pretty fabric. πŸ™‚

Happy St. Partick’s Day!

If one single person I went to High School with remembers this, I hope it makes them smile too. We had a teacher who always said this poem when we took tests. It has been nearly 18 years since I took my last class with her, but I still remember this poem.Β  sunset-hands-love-woman.jpgΒ Mrs. Kay

Good Luck, Class! Good Luck!

I do wish you well.

I do think you’re swell.

Clementine, Sweet Clementine

Bella Sunshine Designs has a new dress out and it is some kind of

O-U-T-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G!

Plus they are having a current 30% off site wide sale for their Birthday!

Clementine, Bella Sunshine Designs, maxi dress

True to their style, this pattern includes a Full Bust Adjustment which is one of the reasons I love them. It saves me the time and the work of doing it myself. The bodice is fully lined so I don’t have to stress over perfect top stitching because no one sees it.

20180217_143257.jpg

I choose to do the mid length sleeve so I could wear it most of the year. I also made the maxi length dress but the pattern comes in a midi length as well as a top. Another option is decorative bands around the lower skirt. I chose not to do them because I didn’t have anything on hand to match this amazing fabric. I know, hard to believe that, but I swear it is true. Speaking on fabric this is Savage in Teal from Sly Fox Fabric. They are very quickly stealing my heart over there. πŸ™‚

Be Greater

I am back with another winner from Ellie and Mac.

BE GREATER

MommaΒ and Me Edition

Be Greater Ellie and Mac

Hi-lo hem to the max! Not my usual look, but in the tunic version it totally worked for me. I sewed this up from some newly acquired Double Brushed Poly from So Sew English. I had just finished my version and was still admiring it when in walks Momma Mia. She loved it too and wanted one. <Insert Side Eye> Just kidding! Sure Momma! Whatever you want!

Let’s measure… Ten minutes later my hashtag became #IdontsewforothersbutIwillformomma πŸ™‚

Momma and Me Grown Up Edition! we have all seen the kiddo version of Mommy and Me, but my dogs refuse to wear clothes so they aren’t really my thing. πŸ™‚

Thankfully I had enough fabric and a few extra minutes. This one went together quickly as it is only 5 pieces. Can’t beat that for a quick one!

Be Greater Ellie and Mac
Momma and Me

We are so cute! πŸ™‚ This comes in crop, shirt, tunic and dress length! Short and long sleeves are included with the pattern. The sleeves are roomy in this dress and I didn’t require a bicep adjustment which I typically need. I shortened my dress 3 inches as I only 5’1 and it was designed for 5’5. At regular length the back bodice wouldΒ  be tucked into my boots.Β  πŸ™‚ No height adjustment for Momma Mia.

Ellie and Mac Be Greater
Twinning

Get your copy of Be Greater while it is on sale here. It is currently about 5 bucks! You can make all for versions is a few hours and it will be money well spent!

I have worn this twice now and both times received several compliments and smiled while saying, “Thanks, I made it.” I am finally beginning to feel like I am getting this sewing thing sorted out. More successes than failures….Dare I think I am really becoming a seamstress.
