Sunny Day

SUNNY DAYS, SWEEPING THE CLOUDS AWAY

EAM Sunny Day 4x 12

OK, so that is wishful thinking as a storm is rolling through as I type this. 🙂 Such is Ohio weather in June. Alright. On to the pattern. 🙂 Big surprise, but I am sticking with a good thing. Ta-Da!! Another pattern from Ellie and Mac. This time it is the latest release called Sunny Day.

As you can see, I made two lengths in two totally different types of fabrics. First, I made the Striped version. This is the knee length option. It is super comfy. This striped look a little trippy in pics, but thankfully not as much in person.

I got this fabric from Ms. Rosa over at Sew Blessed. ITY is so cool and silky and dreamy! I have been hoarding this for a few months now. I loved it so much. I can’t wait to make a little cropped cardi to wear over it! I made this version in testing and the tank straps were slightly widen in the final pattern. Just so ya know! 🙂

The second version I made is the mini version. Woot! Woot! I’m wearing a mini dress…over leggings, of course!

This is actually a couple inches shorter than the mini length because I only had 2 yards of this adorable humming bird print fabric. I got it from Ksews.  The wider straps in this version cover my bra straps much better! This on sewed up quickly wish is one of my favorite things about sewing Ellie and Mac patterns.

This top is assembled with the “burrito roll’ technique which means no binding! The pattern has great directions for this and a video clip as well. So 6 pieces and you have a top! This pattern also has optional pockets. I was lazy and didn’t make them, now I regret it. I may open up the side seams and put them in. I love pockets so why I didn’t put them in…no idea!

EAM Sunny Day 4x 5

This pattern comes in sizes XXS-4X. I made the 4X.  lengths are included in the pattern- tunic, mini, knee and maxi length. Perfect length for whatever you want!

Fireside Top

As you can see I have done a lot of sewing this past week. This is my second post in as many days. Again, Ellie and Mac came to my rescue! I recently received this gorgeous Poly Rayon Spandex fabric from Sly Fox Fabrics! Holy cow!! It is so much better in person.

Fireside 4x 12 Have you guys added mustard color to your closets yet? Because I seriously think you should. I know it is shocking that I went with a floral print but How was I suppose to resist this one? It is called Serenity. You can pick it up as just this print or in a bundle with modal jersey.

OK So now that pattern. Another Ellie and Mac for me! I am helping you guys out because their summer sale is still going on and everything is HALF PRICE!!

Fireside 4x 17

This is the Women’s Fireside Top. I loved the back cut out with a strap. I think it is a little different that some of my recent tops. It has a band from the scoop back to the V neck front. The directions were clear and my first even V neck looks great!  I made a few modifications and I will tell you about them as we go.

Fireside 4x 9

So the first thing I changed was to make the shirt short sleeved. It comes with a Dolman sleeve, but includes an additional pattern piece for a lower sleeve. It is summer so I didn’t use it. I added roughly 1.5 inches to the width of the Dolman sleeve and then hemmed the raw edge.

Next thing I changed was not including the side vents. This happened mainly because I forgot about them as I was sergering along and didn’t want to unpick the seam. I am ok with the result. 🙂

So do you love the Women’s Fireside as much as I do? Get your copy here while it is 50% off. The price is $4.48, but only for a few more days!! Hurry! Also all Ellie and Mac patterns are 50% off so snoop around and shop shop shop!

The fabric can be found here, but don’t wait to long. The great prints go fast!! Sly Fox is awesome with next day shipping!! Also while at Sly Fox sign up to win a serer…link is here.

Leave me a comment and let me know which pattern you are picking up! I would love to see what you are making!

Blown Away

Be Breezy 4x 14

So I recently was asked to join my second strike off team and I couldn’t wait to get started. Lucky for me, I soared to the top of the promo list and quickly received my fabric. I picked two different prints from Stitchin’ Pretties so stay tuned for some more beautiful fabrics this week!

Be Breezy + Stitchin’ Pretties + Puppy Dog= PERFECTION

When I received this super soft, super adorable, Double Brushed Poly Print called Sophia, I knew I needed a girlie pattern to team it with. I wanted something I hadn’t tried before, but I also knew it needed to be a quick sew because I couldn’t wait to wear it! I bet you would have felt the same way. Psst… there may be a flash sale happening at Stitchin’ Pretties RIGHT NOW!!!

I turned to my stash of Ellie and Mac Patterns. Please don’t tell anyone, but I have a lot of them! I hadn’t sewn this one yet, so it was a perfect choice!

….DRUM ROLL PLEASE….

BE BREEZY

Be Breezy 4x 13

If you have been reading my blog long at all, you know I am a super fan of tops and dresses that are fitted through the bust and have a skirt attached at the natural waistline. Trust me, even if you are a round apple shape, you have a waist! This pattern not only has those features, but the skirt portion is angled. It is pointed in the front and the back. I like this as it covers my belly and my booty. Also it is a little bit different than a lot of others designs out there.

Be Breezy 4x 5
See the angle…nice huh?

I made the 4x size which is my typical size in EAM patterns and I adjusted the arms to accommodate my biceps which is also typical. Here is the video how to do it. I added 1.5 inches. I chose to make the mid-thigh length with short sleeves.  This pattern comes with several sleeve and length options so you can mix and match however you want! I made this top with a 2 yard cut of Sophia and have a nice size section left…maybe some matching socks or undies will be made. 🙂

So I made this top yesterday and wore it all day. I kinda hate to wash it because I want to wear it again already!

When you choose a pattern called Be Breezy it only seems right to share some windblown photos right?? Maybe I should have flown a kite in my pics…

OK so here is a recap of the details

Going Swimming with 5oo4 patterns!

So I have never in my life thought I would sew my own swimsuit, but I did it! Momma Mia has a pool and it has been calling my name. Several weeks ago I bought a swim suit, two actually. I brought them home to try on and no surprise, but they didn’t even come close to fitting. Literally, inches of side boob showing while the bottom of the suit didn’t even touch my bottom. 🙂 So when  5oo4 put out a tester call for a swim pattern, I signed up! I made my first ever swim suit and I am showing it online. Eeekk! Last year I didn’t even wear shorts in public. I think I have officially gotten to the age where I just don’t  care anymore. This is me, accept it or not.

5004 Rosanna and Tidal Waves 4x 6

So this swim top is the Rosanna top from 5oo4 patterns. I recently blogged about this version

5oo4 Rosanna Size 4XL FBA

For this swim version, I did make the built in bra. I am pretty busty and it didn’t provide the support I needed so I am also wearing a normal bra under my swim version. Yep, I swam in it too, I just like the girls to be contained. 😉

Options Include:

  • Regular Bodice and 1″ FBA Bodice pieces.
  • Peplum, Swim Dress, Short or Long Full Circle Skirt Lengths.
  • Peplum, Swim Dress, Short or Long Half Circle Skirt Lengths.
  • Finish arms and neckline with binding, bands or elastic.
  • Thin or thick back strap and basic instructions that you can use for infinite creative backs.
  • 2 Neckline Options: High or Low Scoop

I chose to make the high scoop neck, short swim dress with an attached half circle skirt. I also used the INCLUDED full bust adjustments pieces. I finished my edges with binding. I didn’t add any straps to the scoop back, but after a test swim, I think I will add them for a little more support. So since Rosanna is only the top, I needed swim bottoms. I would also like to the lengthen the skirt a few more inches in my next version.

5004 Rosanna and Tidal Waves 4x 2
Pool Time

Lucky for me, I had recently won a free pattern from 5oo4.com. I had chosen the Tidal Waves Swim Shorts. I thought these shorts would be great to wear under my skirts, but  they are the Tidal Waves SWIM SHORTS! I made these shorts in size 4x which is where I normally fall in their patterns. Now the 5004 Team took the time to write a nice little note in the pattern about adjusting the thighs for a perfect fit, but as usual I didn’t follow directions. Are the thighs too loose? YUP! Am I kicked myself? YUP! This is your reminder…READ THE PROVIDED INFORMATION! DO WHAT IT SAY!!!

5004 Rosanna and Tidal Waves 4x 3

The Women’s Tidal Wave Swim Shorts include:

-4 rise heights (high, mid-rise, low, extra low/maternity)
-2 leg lengths (2.5″ and 4.5″ when hemmed)
-Legs can be hemmed or finished with a band
-Solid or color blocked option
-Optional drawstring

I decided for my first test run I would do the most basic version. I did the high-rise with the 4.5 inch length. I banded mine, but I *may* have serged my bands on the wrong side of my shorts. I was too lazy to unpick all that so I just flipped the bands covering the seam allowance and top stitched them down. Shh!! Don’t tell, but that is why you can’t really see my bands here! I also opted to go with the solid option and not do the color blocking for the sake of a test run.

Soaking up some sunshine!

If this would have been in the sand this picture would have been perfect! Oh, that and if  my eyes were open, that would have been perfect. Something else that is perfect…these patterns!!!

Something not so perfect…

Apple Cardigan and a sneak peek

This quick entry is just to let you know that The Apple Cardigan is on Sunshine Sale today only until midnight. This is my second one and I love it as much as the first one! I will show you both today to remind you how amazing it is!

Ladies size 0-30 with or without an included FBA. I made one with short and one with  long sleeves. These are both the shorter length version but you can make a knee length option.

This burnt orange floral fabric is Liverpool from Iamsewblessed.com. I wasn’t sure how Liverpool would work for a cardigan, but it feels nice and drapes neatly too! I am slowly falling in love with all things Liverpool.

Here is the link to the floral on black version in my past post.

The sale runs until Sunday at midnight EST. Click the link. Use the coupon code “sunshinesale” for ladies at $6 and girls at $5 or “sunshinesalebundle” for the bundle at $10.

Rosanna

Has the heat of summer reached your area yet? I know it has in Ohio and I needed a new swim suit! When the opportunity to test a swim dress for 5 out of 4 patterns came up I didn’t have to think twice about signing up! So I made a swim top and a tank top! Here is my tank! I love it! The color blocking it pretty fantastic!

5004 Rosanna 4x 10

This is a 4x bust graded to a 5x waist. I used the included FBA pieces to make this short swim dress length top. I chose to do a half circle skirt. Also for reference, this is the high neckline option.

The pattern includes all these options

  • Regular Bodice and 1″ FBA Bodice pieces.
  • Peplum, Swim Dress, Short or Long Full Circle Skirt Lengths.
  • Peplum, Swim Dress, Short or Long Half Circle Skirt Lengths.
  • Finish arms and neckline with binding, bands or elastic.
  • Thin or thick back strap and basic instructions that you can use for infinite creative backs.
  • 2 Neckline Options: High or Low Scoop

Love this colorblocking! This amazing fabric is Sly Fox Fabrics. The print is Double Brushed Poly – Tropical Oasis in Purple. Also shown is Orchid Solid in Double Brushed Poly.

5004 Rosanna 4x 1I left my back open, but you have the option to add straps like I did for all three Jessie tops/dresses I made.

One last picture to show you it really is an amazing top, but stay tuned I have a swim version with Tidal Wave shorts coming to the blog soon. I suggest picking up both patterns while they are on sale!

Shark Bite

Another great knit pattern from Ellie and Mac is now released! Are you ready??

E&M Sharkbite 4-5x 1

The Shark Bite Top features a shark bite hem and 3 different sleeve length options. I sewed the short sleeved version, but you can choose a tank or 3/4 sleeve if you prefer.

E&M Sharkbite 4-5x 6

Ellie and Mac patterns feature a size range from XXS to 5X. For reference this is a 4X option. I didn’t adjust for my height when making this top. This one sewed up quickly as it is only 5 pieces. That is one of my favorite things about Ellie and Mac patterns. They all sew so quickly.

E&M Sharkbite 4-5x 4

Another great option this pattern features is color blocked side panels. I used the same fabric for my entire top because I loved the feel of the fabric. I picked it up from Ksews.com.

E&M Sharkbite 4-5x 5

So this newly released pattern is now on sale for $3.85. Get is fast before you miss it the deal!! Here is the link to the women’s sizes. Click HERE

BONUS

Helen

It has been awhile since I tested with Diby Club, but this one was worth the wait! Trust me! Let me show you Helen, beautiful Helen.

DIBY Helen 30-28 11

Yea I know, I kinda love it also.

This dress comes in maxi, knee, and mid thigh length. There is a slit up the sides of the longer two lengths. I took several inches off the length of this one, but left the slit at the same height.

This was the first time I have sewn a garment with dolmen sleeves, but it made this one a fairly easy construction. I did find the sleeves a little snug in the blue dress so you may want to do a bit of measuring if you have larger arms. It is a personal adjustment. I nearly always need to make it. I adjusted that in the next one. 🙂 DIBY Helen 30-28 12

This is the full front bodice option. I love how quickly this came together. Well written directions make the casing come together quickly and you can choose buttonholes or grommets.

DIBY Helen 30-28 14

This beautiful fabric is an ITY from Iamsewblessed. It is gorgeous. It feels amazing! I need more of it! Now Helen 2.0.

DIBY Helen 30-28 2

OK Helen 2.0 is kinda amazing as well. I shortened the mid-thigh an extra 3 inches so I could wear it as a top instead of a dress. I honestly have no place to wear a short dress. 😉

Did I mention the pockets in this dress? They are large! Roomy enough to tuck in my phone, my keys, and my hands. 🙂 All dresses need pockets. Why don’t all dresses have pockets?

DIBY Helen 30-28 6

So let’s talk fabric. This amazing Zebra with gold foil ITY came from Sly Fox Fabric. It is a new release from Sly Fox Fabrics. You can check it out here. You need it! Trust me! I have a little bit left and NEED to use it ASAP! You also need this pattern. You can pick it up using the links below.

OK So now that I talked you into Helen, you can get it here.

Stella

I know you guys have heard all the rumors, “The rompers are coming! The rompers are coming!” Well, The Rompers are here…just not on my blog…because I prefer separates! I made a mix of tops and bottoms and they all come with the 5oo4 Stella ROMPER pattern! So here we go…

First up – Flounce Top with optional straps! What is not to love about this??

5oo4 Stella 5x 9

This is my favorite, I love animal prints!! I got this one from Fabric.com last year in a clearance sale. 🙂

Next up – cami top, baby! I think a lot of people can relate to wearing cami tops. I love them under tops all year long. For an extra layer in fall; for extra warmth in winter. Spring and Summer – they are great when the weatherman can’t decide how to dress. The best part of making your own, choosing the length! I like my shirts long. 🙂 This cami is long…I like this cami! I am wearing it as I type.

This fabric is Cotton Lycra which I scored in someone’s major destash! Her loss, My gain!

Next item on my list…Shorts!!! Say, What? Yep, Shorts! Shorts with amazing pockets!

5oo4 Stella 5x 12

These awesome shorts are made with scuba from Iamsewblessed. Ms. Rosa sent me these roses as a sample when I asked what the heck does Scuba feel like and what would I make with it? 🙂 Shorts, make all the shorts! Make shorts with pockets.

I would buy this pattern simply because there are pockets in the shorts and they look good!!! I hemmed my shorts, but you can band them if you prefer.

After all this sewing, I am ready to relax… in.. my.. brand.. new.. PJs!!! (insert your best Price is Right voice here)

Super Soft, Ultra Comfy sleep set! If I wasn’t as pale as a ghost, I would be blending in with this giant tree.  This camo print also came from Ms. Rosa.

So let’s talk details… Stolen right from the 5oo4 website…because there a lot of great details! Can you believe I didn’t even sew all the options???

The Stella is a women’s romper pattern that can be made as a one-piece outfit or as a separate tank and shorts. This is a PDF sewing pattern, not a finished product.

Options for the Stella Women’s Romper include:

  • Two back styles
