Malala Dress and Free Leggings

My first sweater of the season and it is Malala…It is kinda like Oh-la-la!

DIBY Malala 30 1 (6)

The Malala comes in 5 different lengths which is kinda amazing! I made the dress length because, well, why not? It it so lovely! Other length options are…

Shirt and Banded Shirt

Tunic and Banded Tunic

and the DRESS!

DIBY Malala 30 1 (9)

Of course, DIBY also gave you sleeve options. I used the elbow length.

Elbow // 3/4 Sleeve // Long Sleeve // Cuffed Long Sleeve

The fun feature of this top/dress is the pleated collar! It forms a lovely V neck and is accessorized with buttons. Don’t panic, Jessica made a video to walk you through the process of assembling it. The pattern lays out placement for 2 buttons, but I had one very large, very lovely Mother of Pearl button to use. My button collection is a lot like your grandma’s button jar. 10,000 buttons no matches! I love it!

Fabric Details:

The Softest French Terry ever and I got it from Sew Blessed! Rosa has been killing it at the fabric market lately! I am crossing my fingers I have enough left to make a cute tank out of.

Review:

Lovely design, easy sew, step by step video for neck band, length options, sizes up to Plus 36. As always DIBY provides a wonderful pattern and grading directions to help you get a perfect fit.

Mae Poncho

The Mae Poncho from the DIBY Club is here and just in time for fall. It fits perfectly into my fall wardrobe and you will want one also. Speaking of wanting one, my mom does too. She told me over a week ago and I had forgotten. I’ve had a sewing slump since finishing this poncho until today. I should have shared it with you guys early this week, but I couldn’t get myself motivated to sit down and write this post. So here I am, almost 11 am, eating blueberry pancakes and thinking that I need to get myself on track. I finished two more garments since yesterday and feel like I am back in the groove.

DIBY Mae 30 4

So back to Mae. She is pretty lovely, isn’t she? Ponchos are nice for fall layering which is how I am sharing my Mae. I layered my poncho over a solid black tank. I made the most basic option for my poncho because I didn’t have enough fabric for a cowl neck or the hood option. Honestly, sometimes basic is perfect! I also knew I didn’t want sleeves but there are sleeves included with the pattern. I created buttonholes according to the pattern directions and added a RTW belt.

DIBY Mae 30 6

I love the contrasting trim fabric I added here!!

Reversible Dress- EAM

One Dress – Two Looks

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
REVERSIBLE DRESS
As I was sewing this dress up, I was trying to coming up with reasons why I needed a reversible dress. We know I NEEDED it! I decided it would make the perfect day to night outfit. You can use bright cheery colors on one side and darker sexier colors on the other. Maybe you need it for travel. One garment in your bag, but two outfits. Lastly, I thought if you were like me and a messy eater…drip your soup at lunch…no problem. Just turn your dress inside out and you’re good to go! Ok, that was in a stretch, but it is so my life!
This is one side of my dress. I choose to make the mini version which is a actually a knee length. The midi version is several inches longer. I chose to color block my front bodice here.
The hot pink fabric is DBP from Sly Fox Fabrics and the floral print is from Sew Blessed Fabrics.
On the flip side…
I have to confess that this is a mistake. My skirt is attached incorrectly. It should have been split with black in the front or back and the blue as the opposite. It works out well though and it just looks colorblocked. This blue BP is also from Sly Fox and the watercolor looking print is from… gasp….Joann’s. I picked it up last Black Friday.
Ok Let’s talk pattern features…
Solid and color block options
Mini and midi length options
Reversible
Excellent twirl factor
No trim pattern pages for quick assembly
Layers printing feature is included for this pattern for your convenience
Sizes XXS-4X. I sewed the 4X.
The Women’s Reversible Dress is available here. It is currently on sale for $3.85.
While at Ellie and Mac check out all the other patterns which are also only sale for 25% off.
Lola Bottoms
If you are going to make some amazing pants- Make them in snake skin print!
5oo4 Lola 4X 8
These are the Lola Pants from 5oo4 patterns. A high rise, wide leg pant that is so popular this fall. The Lola will become your new favorite pant, but they can also be your favorite capris or shorts. I sewed up my fit muslin in a woven fabric to make sure the fit was spot on. These pants are drafted to be made for a very fluid woven fabric or a lightweight knit.
5oo4 Lola 4X 1
Here I am wearing a size 4 x. I did a fully belly adjustment. I honestly could have probably used a 3x with a belly adjustment because this knit is so stretchy. I would recommend doing a fit muslin with a similar fabric to what you plan to use for your finished piece. Pants can be tricky to fit so I suggest you do a muslin. This is a single brushed poly from Sly Fox. I love it, I wanted a dress made out of it, but since these are such great pants I am happy with them too! Here is the link to the fabric.
Copy of 5oo4_Lola_Pants_Size4XL(1)
In typical 5oo4 fashion there are loads of options with these pants.
  • Pants, Capris or Shorts
  • Belt Loops and Waist Tie Belt
  • Pockets
  • Woven or knit construction
I didn’t create belt loops or tie belt because I knew I wanted to pair my Lola’s with an extra wide belt. I am sort of obsessed with this belt lately!
Showing it with and without a sweater! Looks great for a variety of seasons which is perfect for Ohio.
Do you love Lola too? Here is the link to the ladies pattern. It is on sale for $7.95 right now!
I suggest any of more fitted tops from 5oo4 to wear with your Lola’s. I am kinda dreaming of making a Jessie in red Liverpool to wear with mine! Here are a few other Jessie’s I have made.
My new bestie Olivia
Let me introduce you to Olivia! She is my latest make from Rebecca Page and I love her. RP Olivia 5x 1
I made the knit version and used both my serger and sewing machines. You also have the option of making your Olivia with woven fabrics and doing French Seams. 🙂 Up to you! The neckline is gathered with an elastic casing and I choose to do my sleeves the same way. The pattern has cut lines for both short and long sleeves so I split the difference and made mine around elbow length. I prefer this length come fall.
I did a 1 inch full bust adjustment on this pattern as I am just a bit outside of the size range. Since the pattern is similar to a very wide boat neck it was a little unusual, but it worked out well and I am happy with the outcomeEven though Olivia is a roomier fit I think it was the right choice because now I don’t have any weird pulling in the bust or under arm area. I also lengthened the bodice by 3 inches. I do this to almost everything I make because I will not wear tops that do not cover my stomach. One of the best things about sewing for yourself is making the adjustments which are needed. You shouldn’t apologize for it. I almost always add length even though I am only 5’1. I almost always have to adjust arms at the bicep and I almost always need a full bust adjustment. When I try on clothing in a store these are the areas that always annoy me. If you are going to the trouble of making your own clothes, you should feel good when wearing them.
This shirt is actually designed to sit on the outer shoulder. That would be awesome, but this girl needs a real bra with real straps. 🙂 I just cinched the elastic a little shorter and brought it all in.
RP Olivia 5x 6
Fabric Time:
This is another beauty from Sly Fox Fabrics. It is called Eminence Chevrons. Mary Beth, one of the owners, picked this out for me. She did a nice job! This isn’t my typical print and by that I mean it isn’t floral, but I love it anyhow. Chevron is always fun. I would have totally made it into pants if I had the patience to match  all the points. Speaking of matching, I can’t believe I didn’t get one single picture of my chevron matching on the sides. I honestly worked pretty hard to make that happen.
This is a DTY which is a little like ITY. I love the feel of it. Soft, silky, and cool. All good things in the summer. 🙂 I am linking you to everything that popped up with I searched Chevron over at Sly Fox Fabrics because there are a lot of really great options.
