Love Notions – Rhapsody Updated

The Love Notions Rhapsody has just gotten updated to the current size chart and the option to be a dress is included with the pattern!! Let’s check it out!

4xfba-5x Rhapsody (4)

I don’t have a lot of success stories when it comes to woven patterns, but I am pretty impressed with this dress. I am happy to report all of me fits in it without any tight or loose areas. This is the bonus of clothing being made to fit a person’s body. I was able to customize the pattern to fit my body, grade between sizes and make the needed adjustments to fit properly. I sewed up the 4x bust with the included FBA and graded out to the 5x at the waist and thru the hip. There are 9 sleeve options included with this pattern, but I chose the flutter sleeve. Actually my fabric chose it, because I didn’t have enough to make the full flowy sleeves I wanted. I did a 1 inch bicep adjustment to keep the pattern fit as intended.

4xfba-5x Rhapsody (6)

I love the drafting of this pattern because all of the edges are either sewn as French seams, enclosed inside the yoke, or finished with the serger, so it looks nice and neat on the inside too. I hemmed my sleeves as usual and did a rolled hem around the bottom hem. Remember the video I made on how to make a rolled hem? Speaking of the hemline, after I finished my dress, the hem line was smoothed out slightly so it doesn’t have such a hi lo effect.  I actually really like the line of the hem, so I haven’t smoothed mine out.

4xfba-5x Rhapsody (3)

What I really love about this dress is the details like the gathering of the yoke at the shoulders and the pleat in the back. I created my own bias tape to finish the neck binding and the strings and I am very happy with the finished look.

4xfba-5x Rhapsody (2)

I used a lightweight mystery woven fabric for this one. I honestly don’t even know where it came from, but I strongly feel it was the Joann dot clearance section a year ago. It has the texture of a swiss dot fabric, but no idea what it is actually it other than light weight and comfy!

Here is the entire run down from the website.

The Rhapsody is the perfect top & dress for your summer wardrobe. This blouse & dress is meant for lightweight and drapey wovens. It features nine sleeve options, a flattering curved hem, gathering at the yoke and french seams so the inside looks as nice as the outside! The v-neck line is bound with self-made bias tape and can include ties to give it a beachy feel.

  • XS-5X

Camilla – My Dear Friend

Last week, 5 out of 4 hosted a Sew Along on their website/Facebook group/Youtube Channel for the Camilla Top. I usually don’t get super amped up about Sew Alongs because I don’t like to drag a project out for days. However, if I love the project as much as I love Camilla…Game On!

Camilla 5x top (4)

I have made several Camilla tops and you can view them by clicking the link. Camilla is a fairly quick sew especially when you have made it  few times! Give it a try!!

Let’s talk about fabric. I want to start by saying I am 100% in love with the feel of this fabric! Hello cool drapy goodness…I need you in my life! This fabric is Cameron ITY and it is from Stitchin’ Pretties. I love ITY. This one was easy to sew, cool to the touch, and has the best drape EVER! The Camilla top really needs a fabric with amazing drape to make the best of the front cowl neckline.

Camilla 5x top (1)

I just ordered another ITY print from Stitchin’ Pretties. Don’t forget that during this whole Covid Crisis, Stitchin’ Pretties is offering to throw in an extra 1 yard of fabric for each 2 yard cut you order! Psst… for the record, a medium box will hold 12 yards…. that may or may not  be just what I ordered. I should have my fabric in hand by Saturday! Laura is a shipping ninja! #SupportSmallBusiness

The Camilla pattern

OPTIONS INCLUDE:

  • Sleeveless, Short, Elbow, 3/4, Long, and Extra Long Sleeves;
  • Shirt, Tunic, A-line Dress, and Swing Dress;
  • Maternity option;
  • Band option for each sleeve length, including thumbhole cuffs;
  • Hem Band Option;
  • Optional Pockets for Swing Dress; and
  • Optional ruched sides of bodice

This time I decided to do a straight 5x to have a little more room through the bust area. Since this is an older 5oo4 pattern, it doesn’t include the FBA which is now included with their patterns. I also graded out to the A-line dress lines, but cut it at a tunic length. This allowed me to have a little more room overall. My sleeves are elbow length.

Camilla 5x top (2)Are you ready to start shopping now?

Here is the Cameron Fabric.  Don’t forget, order 2 yards, Laura will throw in a bonus yard of her choice!

Here is the Camilla Pattern.

Sequoia 5oo4 Sydney 4x fba promo (2)

I have shared the Sydney, one other time, and it was for Momma Mia. This time, I needed a new spring shirt and thought the Sydney would be a great choice. I knew I was making a top length, but you can choose from 5 other skirts!!

Sequoia 5oo4 Sydney 4x fba promo (3)

I also knew I only had 2 yards of this lovely fabric from Stitchin’ Pretties. This print is called Jade and it is Double Brushed Poly. INSIDER TIP: This fabric is only $4.50 a yard in the clearance section!! Don’t wait, you need it now! I really do think this fabric is so pretty and the huge floral print is A-MAZ-ING! This print would be so lovely in a maxi dress! I would I had more yardage for sure!

Sydney 4x FBA (2)

So speaking of not enough fabric for a maxi, I also didn’t really have enough for for a peplum. I am a thrifty gal, so let’s hope for the best!

As the pattern says, 2 yards is not enough…. unless you get creative! So here we go. Let’s piecing the lining fabric.

Now you have a piece large enough to cut the back bodice. 🙂 Since it is the lining, no one will even know. 🙂 SO the reason for having a lining is so that you have a clean neckline without a band. Notice in the next photo. 🙂

The Fab Clique Fabric Shoppe – Guest Sewist

Fab Clique Fabric Shoppe

I was recently picked to be a guest sewist for Fab Clique Fabric Shoppe. The deal is I receive a bundle of mystery fabric, I make a quick video of opening the package and then sew up a garment of my choice…sounds easy, Right? When I opened my fabric, I was excited to find Rib Knit…Brushed Poly Rib Knit actually.  Super Soft, Super Stretchy, Super Springy! These colors are beautiful and so cheery!

FCFS (2)

I immediately thought about sewing a tank and cardigan, but knew it would be a stretch to make a cardigan from 2 yards of fabric. I toyed around with the idea of a cozy long sleeve shirt, maybe some color blocking, but in the end a color blocked cardigan won out. I decided to start with the Ellie and Mac Chapman Cardigan as a base. I have sewn it before and it is a nice cardigan. I felt comfortable making another one with a few hacks.

FCFS (3)

I knew I wanted to make the cardigan a little fancy. I decided I wanted to add pockets and add some color blocking. I used a scrap of my fabric and added some piping details. Yeah! Fancy Pockets! Stitching piping to two layers of rib knit it not for the faint of heart, but it worked and it looks so fun! I love these big pockets!

FCFS (4)

I also used the white rib knit for all the bands and I added a contrast stripe all the way around the bodice. In theory, it sounds pretty simple. In reality I had finished my garment before I decided to add that band around the middle. I can confidently say this fabric will hold up to tons of seam ripping. No where did it stretch out or turn wonky!

FCFS (1)

Even though rib knit is new to me, it sewed nicely. I used my serger and my sewing machine and both were fine. This fabric really is perfect for a light weight layer added over a top or tank in spring or summer. I paired my new modern vibe Ellie and Mac Chapman Cardi with the Bella Sunshine Designs Clementine Maxi Dress. I loved that the colors played so well together.
