LN – Boyfriend Cardigan Update and Sale

Can I tell you a secret? I love a good cardigan! I love wearing my clothing in layers. Part of this is because I feel more put together and part of it is my body doesn’t know if it wants to be hot or cold…Life. lol

I made this cardigan awhile ago for Momma Mia. It even made my Fall Favorites list! I used a loose weave sweater knit for hers. She wears it frequently and I think now she is going to want another one! Not so fast, Momma Mia! This one is all mine. I loved this pattern and was so happy when LN announced this one was joining the extended size chart. Now inclusive thru size 5x with an included full bust adjustment. Not only did the size range increase, but there is now a duster length included and a flat even collar. Seriously, I am so happy about this update! I used a really great plaid sweater knit.

I love the split hem detail!! This is 100% the nicest my split hem has ever looked!

Let’s begin by talking about the options I went with. I am wearing the mid thigh length version with the shawl collar. This is my go-to length for most things and it is perfect over my new Vivace Dress which is also by Love Notions. Worth noting here: This is my original test version and at the last minute additional length was added to the center front to give this pattern a more even look across the front hem. **The current pattern will be more even along the bottom hem.** You are welcome. Spoiler Alert: I already have big plans for a teal blue one using a honeycomb fabric and a flat band!

Included Options/Features

  • Meant for knit fabrics
  • Mid thigh length, Duster length
  • Shawl or Flat collar or hood
  • Drop shoulder
  • Side vents
  • Drop pockets

I am wearing my brand new Boyfriend Cardigan over the Love Notions Vivace dress made in a woven fabric. If you can remember back, I have made myself and Momma Mia this dress in lovely knits so this time I switched it up. This pattern is drafted for either woven or knit fabric. The pattern has separate bodices for these options so you have to pay attention to the print chart before printing. I decided to add three extra inches to the length so that I was certain my dress would be longer than my cardigan and I wanted this to be wearable for work.

This amazing red fabric is called CEY Air Flow . It is textured but light weight and has a wonderful drape. I was happy that it sewed up easily too. Many times I have said I am not great with woven fabrics and this year I have really been putting effort into doing better with them. I highly recommend giving this fabric a try! You can pick it up at Sly Fox Fabrics here . I should also tell you that this comes in a lovely mustard/yellow toned fabric as well. If you haven’t looked lately, Sly Fox Fabrics has some really pretty woven prints. There are some Bubble Crepe fabrics that I have my eye on. I love this Tropical Paradise print it may have just jumped into my cart when I was going there to get this photo for you.

I never knew how much I needed a red dress until now! I am so happy with this and have already wore it twice! Trust me, you will love it as much as I do. This would also make a gorgeous Lyric dress with the button front placket or a flowy Rhapsody.

I am a single dog mom of two and we happily reside in a small house in Ohio. We spend our days playing fetch, digging holes in the garden, and sewing, lots of sewing. We have high hopes of moving to the mountains someday. The dogs don’t really know that yet, but they will understand. I shamelessly hoard fabric and feel slightly sorry for whoever has to sort my stash when I am gone. I am employed full time in a industry that requires little of my creativity, but basically lets me wear whatever I want. So it works out. I can usually be found behind one of my sewing machine avoiding human contact. I test a lot of clothing patterns and therefore always have a new outfit to share. You have most likely found my blog through some sort of sewing outlet and will quickly realize that I am sewing for a plus size body. For reference, I am 5'1 and wear a range from a 2-5x. Sizes change with every designer and you can't trust ready to wear sizing when you are making your own clothing. Your tape measure will become one of your most used tools and if you misplace them like I do, you should pick up several. I will be sharing the good, the bad, and the A-MA-ZING with you… So stay tuned. I will also try to teach you a few of my tricks along the way. People always tells me they want to learn how to sew. My best advice is you have to start. Just do it! You are going to mess up, you will break needles, you will ruin the pretty fabric, you will stab your fingers, but you will learn. You will make something and you will wear it. Someone will say, “I like your shirt.” and you will smile and say, “Thanks, I made it.” You will race home and make something else. Pretty soon you have made more good things than bad and you will feel proud of yourself and you should. I will be proud of you too. :) Ok, that is enough rambling, I have sewing to do. :) SequoiaLynn
