Love Notions – Oakley Vest Update

Hi Friends and Hello Fall! The temps have dropped into the 50’s here in Ohio and that means it is time to pile on the layers! Thankfully, Love Notions heard my unspoken pleas and decided this was the perfect time to update the Oakley Vest into me sized! It it now sized through 5x with an included FBA. 🙂

This is your warning, I have sewn all 3 bodice versions and you are about to be on overload! In addition to making 3 vests in this blog, I also used 3 “slightly unusual” fabrics. That mean this aren’t your typical clothing choices, but they worked perfectly! Dig deep in your stash, I bet you have something awesome there.

Let’s start with View A.

Described as – open front, fully lined with optional in-seam pockets, meant for faux furs and minky-type fabrics.

I used flat fold denim, which I found in a recent sewing stash clean up AND my unusual fabric – A shower curtain!! Yep, this shower curtain did indeed hang in my bathroom for more than year and the matching rug is at my backdoor. I also sewed my inseam pockets inside. Now they are secret snack pockets and pretty epic! Can you see the UNICORNS on my lining?!?! OMG!

I am wearing my View A vest over my La Bella Donna which I blogged about here.

OK View B – I made this one for Momma Mia. It would be super selfish If I sewed all these for myself wouldn’t it?

Described as – Separating zippered front, bias bound, patch pockets. Choose a collar or hood.

So Momma Mia got this neat quilted fabric. I am not sure what this fabric was originally used for, but it has been in my stash for years. I am not sure if it came in a yard sale bin or what, but it is PERFECT for her vest! These colors scream Fall to me and she loves it too! Did I mention there is a hood?! You can choose a collar if you would prefer. I took advantage of the the double sided fabric and used the reverse side for the contrast pockets! The hunter green bias binding looks great too! If you want to skip the finished seams on the inside, you can do French seams and make your vest reversible!

View C- My Favorite!

Described as – Separating zippered front, bias bound, princess seams with integrated pockets. Choose a collar or hood.

This fabric is quilted upholstery fabric and it is kinda fantastic. It is heavier weight and toasty warm. I am happy to report that it wasn’t even difficult to sew after I put in a heavier weight needle. I love that all the edges are finished before construction and that outside edges are finished with binding tape! So easy!

I am wearing my View C vest over the La Bella Donna.

This pattern is already getting a whole lot of love from me and I am sure you will love it too. each version came together quickly and the results are pretty fantastic!

So are you ready to put this one in your fall line up? Today only It is on sale for $5!! Such a deal – Don’t miss out!

From start to finish this dress was only took about 2 hours of work. I sewed it up as soon as I returned home from vacation. I quickly wished I would have had a suitcase stuffed full of the Summer Basics! This one would be perfect for site seeing, long hours of car riding, a wedding, and lounging at the hotel.

I decided to make the maxi length in this awesome DBP from Stitchin’ Pretties. I would love to encourage you to go buy it for yourself, but I have been hoarding it for at least a year because I knew I wanted a summer dress from this bright, fun print! This color combo is one of my faves!

I made a 4x FBA graded to a 5x at the belly. I extended the length of the bodice by 1 inch. I cut and assembled the bodice and tested the fit/length before adding the skirt. I was a wee bit worried that my empire waist was going to ride a bit too high, but the weight of the dress pulled it into the perfect place! I actually really LOVE this pattern! I love that it is maxi length, but didn’t take miles of fabric because it isn’t overly full. I can 100% see myself making several as they are easy to make, fun to wear, and uber comfy! Throw on a cardigan and it has you covered for fall and winter!

This pattern is currently on sale for $9.00 (reg. $12.00) and you can pick up the pattern here using my afflink.

Love Notions – Forte View D Dress

Me Made May Day 4

Morning Friends! Welcome Back! I hope you have all taken a few minutes to enter my raffle at the end of my posts the last few days! You can enter all month long.

Forte Dress View D (2)

Today I am sharing my latest dress with you. I know a few weeks ago I sewed up The Forte top from Love Notions, well today I made the dress, the one with the inverted Vneck. This one has been on my list for about two months. I had a chat with another sewist about their concern about the seam line which connects to the skirt on the bust instead of below it. I confirmed with the designer at the time that is in fact suppose to be midbust. So here I, giving it a shot.

Forte Dress View D (5)

I had this large piece of fabric that I had already cut a dress from for Momma Mia. She wears it often and I adore the fabric so I wanted to make myself something pretty. I was lucky enough to have enough for the Dress View D.  My fabric is double brushed poly from Stitchin’ Pretties. Don’t forget Laura is still throwing in a coordinating yard of fabric for each continuous 2 yard cut you order.  Sadly, this print sold out awhile ago, but there are tons of other options on the site.

Forte Dress View D (3)

So back to my dress, Love Notions is rapidly moving to the top of my most sewn patterns list. I love that they are working on expanding their pattern to the inclusive through 5x size chart and they always include a full bust adjustment pattern piece. I sewed up View D of the Forte Dress, it featured a gathered inverted V front neckline. This dress is surprisingly easy to make and after cutting, sewed up in about an hour. I love that! I like quick sewing projects that look like I spent a lot of time one them.

Forte Dress View D (4)

I elected to go with the sleeve length between short and 3/4 because that is exactly how much fabric I had left after cutting the dress. I am all about using the small pieces and getting them out of my stash. I have way too much fabric to begin with and don’t need a mountain of small bits.

Forte Dress View D (5)

So after making the dress and giving it a wear, I kinda love it. It looks nice, the seam placement across the bust isn’t weird and it is comfortable. All of these things add up to a win! You know what else is a win? This pattern along with all of the Love Notions website is currently 40% off for Mother’s Day! This is the largest sale of the year for Love Notions, so take advantage of it!

Even though this is clearly a post about the Forte Dress, I want to remind you of how fab the Forte Top is too!
