Gloria is Glorious!

I *think* I have sewn 7 Gloria tops! One of my favorite ones is missing from the college below. I can’t locate a picture of it. 😦 This is one of my most loved patterns. I love that it is loaded with options on its own, but it is super hackable!

Today I am sharing a new hack and it is for Momma Mia! You will notice she isn’t in lock down and was able to be in the pictures. I took this photos a few weeks ago before house arrest! So let’s talk about what I did…

Gloria Hack (1)

First off, this isn’t your typical Gloria bodice. I added 3 inches to the length of the bodice as Momma Mia requested it to attach to the skirt closer to her hips. That was easy to do by just lengthening the bodice. For the skirt, I used the long hi lo skirt option. I love that the hi lo shows off her stylish boots while still swaying as the wind blows. She wanted long sleeves and the higher neck line. I was able to make her dress exactly how she wanted it and she was so pleased with it.

My fabric is a Liverpool base and these flowers are so pretty. I picked it up at Zinck’s Fabric Warehouse just before Christmas. What you can’t see from these pictures is when I got the fabric home, there was a large section of fabric that the ink had been smeared/discolored so I had to do some fancy cutting. I ended up having to put a seam down the back of the skirt in order to get this skirt length. It all worked out in the end, though it was super annoying at the time.

Groove Dress

Groove Dress

I recently tested for my first European designer. Her size range on this dress just expanded to a UK size 28 which happens to be what I sewed up. I made a straight 28 bodice with an adjustment to accommodate my biceps and a few inches of extra length added to the short sleeves. I height adjusted as well as it is drafted for 5’6 and I am 5’1. I only took out a few inches. If you are unsure of doing a bicep adjustment you can check out my video here. Made It, Groove hi lo dress, size 28 11I love that this swing dress comes with tons of options! I made the hi-lo hem, but you could choose to make a straight hem. I teamed it up with capri leggings and sandals here because I am ready for spring to stick around.

This swing dress features 2 back darts which give it some shape to the otherwise swingy shape. The darts went in very easily and the entire dress sewed quickly. I used the scoop collar, but there are many other options. You can do round, scoop, slash, hooded or cowl neck options. I am thinking long sleeved, hooded, straight hem for fall. 🙂

Let’s talk fabric now. SLY. FOX. FABRICS…. ’nuff said right? OK, well too bad, I have more to say. This is a double brushed poly and it feels amazing. The print is called Obsession, which is pretty appropriate, if you ask me how I feel about it. The colorway is wine, but it also comes in black. Here is the link to the Obsession in Wine if you want a pretty color like mine. 🙂

This was the perfect day to spend some time taking pictures in the park. 🙂 This fun little mural has been added to the start of the Bike Train at North Lake Park.

Made It, Groove hi lo dress, size 28 14

So my feelings…

Super fast to sew, well drafted and easy even for the beginner sewist. Large size range from teen to UK 28. No trim pages, just tape and go. I like this is any pattern! I will certainly sew a few more of these in the other options. 🙂 If you need a great swing dress in your closet, I suggest giving The Groove Dress a try. Be sure to let me know what you think of it! That’s all for today!
