Taylor Tank Tunic

I am finally starting my summer wardrobe and knew I wanted to add a few new pieces to the line up. I sewed up the 5oo4 Taylor tank. The Taylor features a wide racer back and can be made with your choice of a flat or gathered back bodice. I choose to do the gathered option because why not? 🙂 It didn’t take much longer. It is only running a gathering stitch a few inches and it adds a cute little detail.

5oo4 Taylor (3)

I sewed up a straight 5x since this pattern doesn’t include the usual FBA that 5oo4 has. I should have just done it myself as it is a little larger in the arms and back than I need. It is still a super cute tunic that I will wear all summer long. I appreciate that the racer back is wider than most, but still doesn’t cover my regular bra straps. Also worth noting, this pattern doesn’t have a back bodice seam, but due to using a fabric scrap I had to add one to make it work. 🙂

5oo4 Taylor (2)

The Taylor Racerback pattern includes the following options:

  • 4 bodice styles: Tank, Tunic, A-line Dress, and Swing Dress
  • Maternity option with ruched sides
  • Traditional Racerback
  • Gathered Racerback
  • Optional pockets for the swing dress bodice

5oo4 Taylor (4)

This one will be easy to dress up or down depending on your accessories and fabric choices. Wear it to the park, pair it over a swim suit, or lounge around in the back yard. This is a super versatile top!

Love Notions – Summer Basics Maxi Dress

LN Summer Basic Maxi (2) - CopyThe Summer Basic tank and dress pattern has just released in sizing inclusive through 5x. This pattern includes a tank top and 2 dress length dress options PLUS a shelf bra and a FBA option. I have written several times about my love of quick sewing garments with opportunities for hacking them to create different looks. I can already picture several options for new looks/styles and can’t wait to give them a try. Don’t worry, you will be the first to know.

LN Summer Basic Maxi (5) - Copy

From start to finish this dress was only took about 2 hours of work. I sewed it up as soon as I returned home from vacation. I quickly wished I would have had a suitcase stuffed full of the Summer Basics! This one would be perfect for site seeing, long hours of car riding, a wedding, and lounging at the hotel.

LN Summer Basic Maxi (4) - Copy

I decided to make the maxi length in this awesome DBP from Stitchin’ Pretties. I would love to encourage you to go buy it for yourself, but I have been hoarding it for at least a year because I knew I wanted a summer dress from this bright, fun print! This color combo is one of my faves!

LN Summer Basic Maxi (1) - Copy

I made a 4x FBA graded to a 5x at the belly. I extended the length of the bodice by 1 inch. I cut and assembled the bodice and tested the fit/length before adding the skirt. I was a wee bit worried that my empire waist was going to ride a bit too high, but the weight of the dress pulled it into the perfect place! I actually really LOVE this pattern! I love that it is maxi length, but didn’t take miles of fabric because it isn’t overly full. I can 100% see myself making several as they are easy to make, fun to wear, and uber comfy! Throw on a cardigan and it has you covered for fall and winter!

This pattern is currently on sale for $9.00 (reg. $12.00) and you can pick up the pattern here using my afflink.

Stitchin’ Pretties!

Mandy Tank and Tunic

As promised, I am back with item number two from 5oo4 this week. The entire point of the Basics line is to give people who are either new to sewing or like really fast sewing projects something new to make. Even though I am an experienced sewist, I enjoy quick, instant gratification projects. Did you pick up Sara when I shared it on Tuesday? Here is the link to that post!

5oo4 Mandy Tank 4x-5x (2)

Mandy is like the slim fitting little sister to Sara. Mandy is fitted through the bust, waist and hip. Because of this, it is the perfect tank for wearing to the gym, layering under your Eleanor cardigan, or wearing to bed. You could even use a rib knit fabric to make your own comfy muscle shirt. I used a pretty floral print I picked up from Sew Blessed Fabrics a while ago. It is most likely an ITY, but sometimes I am unsure what a fabric really is.  It sewed up nicely even though it was a little silky.

5oo4 Mandy Tank 4x-5x (5)

I sewed up the 4x bodice with the full bust adjustment which I graded to a 5x waist and hip. This is the same size I always sew for 5oo4. I love that their size chart remains consistent so I know how garments will fit before I even sew them.  I choose the tunic length with the scoop neck as my options. Since this is a pattern in the basic line these are the included options.

5oo4 Mandy Tank 4x-5x (8)

The Mandy Fitted Tank includes:

  • Regular front bodice OR FBA (Full Bust Adjustment) front bodice
  • Two front necklines: high scoop or low scoop
  • Two hem lengths: top or tunic
  • Sizes XXS – 5X

Sara Everyday Tank and Dress

So 5oo4 is doing a few closet “basics” and I am here to share my first one of two this week. I can see this pattern being a closet staple for me this summer. This is Sara. Sara is a tank top with the option of knee length dress as well as a maxi dress. Tank tops come together so quickly. This was is no different. With only a front and back panel and 3 bands, it is so easy…basic. I sewed up the knee length dress length.

5oo4 Sara 4x-5x (7) I ended up wearing it out immediately and taking photos at my mom’s. While there I also wore it to mow the grass. I guess that just proves it is pretty and pretty functionally. I love that about my clothing. I never really know what my day will entail, so I like that so many of my clothes can be wore for anything.

5oo4 Sara 4x-5x (3)

I sewed the 4x with a FBA graded to a 5x. The FBA is included with the pattern and it really does make a difference in the overall look and feel of patterns. If you need the FBA, you should use it. Since this is a basics pattern it doesn’t come with the typically options that 5 out of 4 is known for.

5oo4 Sara 4x-5x (11)

This fabric is from Stitchin’ Pretties and I love it. It is so pretty and soft and floral. This one is called Courtney and you can see it here. I love really do love the color purple and have added a fair amount of it to my wardrobe this summer. Remember my purple Easy Tee from 5oo4 back in June? I love it, I think I will wear it to work tomorrow.

5oo4 Sara 4x-5x (4)

The Sara Everyday Tank and Dress includes:

  • Regular front bodice OR FBA (Full Bust Adjustment) front bodice
  • Scooped neckline
  • Three A-line hem lengths: top, dress or maxi
  • Sizes XXS – 5XL

Virginia’s Back, Back Again

I believe this is the 6th time I have used this pattern! If something is this good, you should use it a lot. As I am writing this post, I am wearing this Virginia tank. I truly love 5oo4 patterns and have enjoyed sewing up so many of them in recent months.

Sequoia ALD Cactus DBP Virginia Tank and Maxi (9)When I practically begged (I was prepared to arm wrestle for it) for this cactus print in the promo group, I knew I had to make a maxi length dress. I had high hopes of taking my photos in the cactus house at Kingwood Center. Sadly, they don’t open until April 1st so that didn’t happen. I do plan to go back and take pictures there especially now that Momma Mia has requested a matching outfit. I think I have sold her on this matching outfit thing. 🙂 I ordered her fabric this morning while it is on sale for 15% off.

Sequoia ALD Cactus DBP Virginia Tank and Maxi (6)

Again, I am loving the navy blue in the background of this print. It really makes the lighter greens and white pop in the little cacti. This fabric is double brushed poly. I love double brushed poly and sew everything from dresses to leggings from it. DBP washes well, dries quickly and doesn’t wrinkle. Amelia Lane Designs ships quickly and sometimes includes hand written notes. 🙂

Sequoia ALD Cactus DBP Virginia Tank and Maxi (4)

The only adjustments I made to this pattern was adding a backseam to the back of the tank because I wanted to make the most of this fabric and since it is directional it is sometimes harder to Jenga the pattern pieces together. I also added 3 inches to the length of the tank. I also shortened the skirt about 5 inches.

All the options 🙂

  • Tank top with optional built-in bra
  • Separate full bust adjustment (FBA) pattern pieces for the tank and bra
  • Knee length or Maxi length skirt
  • Skirt can be made from woven or knit fabric
  • Tank top has two neckline options in the front and two neckline options in the back
  • Dress can be made with knit waistband or elastic casing
  • Maternity option
  • Pockets!
  • Sizes XXS-5XL
  • Matching girls’ option! Check out the Girls’ Virginia Tank & Maxi and get 10% off when you buy both patterns at once!

Sequoia ALD Cactus DBP Virginia Tank and Maxi (8)

The cool thing about this pattern is you can make a dress or you can make a tank and skirt. I made a tank and a skirt. I think I will get much more wear out of the tank than the dress. Life doesn’t give me loads of days to wear dresses. 🙂

Virginia Tank 2.0

So yesterday I told you about my black and white striped DBP tank! Today I am talking about my second tank. I used the 1 yard cut of  this colorful Mandela type print. I like busy prints, obviously. I have been throwing prints in your face for weeks and preaching that you should be wearing them as well. I like prints because they hide a multitude of sins that usually come in the form of lumps and bumps and rolls on my body. I am all about you should love yourself and work with what you got, but I also don’t wish to draw attention to areas I want to minimize. Personally, that isn’t good for my self-esteem. This print is kinda amazing though. I love it, I am praying it restocks soon. I think this will make an amazing dress for spring.

virginia tank 4

When your print has all these amazing colors in it, you can pair it with anything! I am wearing a super bold teal beaded necklace in my pics! Sometimes, all you need are awesome accessories to go from casual to snazzy!

virginia tank 6

Today I am not breaking the prints rules, but I am working on an amazing pattern hack tutorial. I will be using some another amazing Sly Fox Print and it isn’t a stripe and it isn’t a floral! Trust me, it will be epic!

virginia tank 5

Again here are all the options for Virginia. 🙂

HOC Virginia Tank

So this is my second show and share from Sly Fox Fabrics week! I purposely ordered 2 different 1 yard cuts with the plan to make some great tank tops! I love wearing tank tops around the house, under shirts when it is freezing cold out, and of course, when I am mixing up my prints! I spent some time recently perusing Pinterest to come up with some trendy fashion ideas for my plus size self. If I am super honest with all of you, I spend a lot of time perusing Pinterest for sewing ideas. I have been making an effort to pin more and screenshot less. Do you follow me on Pinterest? Here is my link. While there, I discovered I really needed a black and white horizontal striped shirt. I wear stripes…a lot of stripes, but I didn’t have one single shirt that was all stripes. I ordered this amazing black and white double brushed poly print from Sly Fox Fabrics. I  knew it would be perfect for my plan!

virginia tank 2

I paired my Black and White tank with the super sassy, super girly, super shortie short skirt. I have had this skirt in my drawer for no less than five years. I picked it up at the Goodwill because I loved the print. I have not worn it one time. Not one single time. As a matter of fact, I had to cut that plastic pricing marker off to take pics. Someday, I hope to wear super pretty skirts for more than photos but the truth is, I don’t know how to sit like a lady. 🙂 I also wore this black belt that I have had for years and black suede boots with this outfit.

virginia tank 3
Puppy Playtime!

Why it works: Black and White small scale stripes with the graphic print of the skirt which also contains black and white. I love how the black boots and belt don’t compete with the fabrics instead they compliment.virginia tank 7

I used the Virginia pattern from 5 out of 4. I have also made myself and Momma Mia matching Virginia maxis from this pattern. She also has a few knee length tank dresses in her stash from this pattern. You can see those dresses here. It is a great pattern to meet some needs in the ‘basics’ sections of my closet.
